Department Overview
The William Allitt School is an Enhanced Resource facility. The additional funding that this provides enables us to work with pupils with a high level of
need.
The Learning Support Department monitors and works with all students including those with Special Educational Needs.
The key way of supporting students is with
Teaching Assistants in classroom in different subject areas. However, some students are withdrawn from lessons for small groups or individual tuition for basic literacy.
Initial concerns about students are dealt with by teaching staff by differentiation of the subject material with advice from Learning Support staff. If there continues to be concern about a student’s progress, further consultation takes place with the student’s parents and teaching staff. Assessment, individual strategies and targets may be put in place to help the students. The school has a strong pastoral care system in place that provides students with support, mentoring and counselling where appropriate. Outside agencies, such as School Health,
the LEA, Advisory staff, Educational Psychology Service and Education Welfare can all be called upon by the school for advice and support with students.
