Department Overview
The William Allitt School is proud of it sporting traditions. Team sports and individual physical pursuits play a significant part in the development of our students.
Through a broad, balanced and comprehensive programme of physical activities and learning experiences, the P.E. department aim to contribute and complement the aims of the school by providing every student with an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential.
We aim to provide an enjoyable, safe, purposeful and challenging programme in order to develop physical and social skills, aesthetic awareness and personal confidence to the benefit of every student.
Key Stage 3 PE
Students are taught in single sex groups. Groups are organised according to ability.
Activities include; - Games
Invasion games – Football, Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Hockey
Net/Wall Games – Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball
Striking and fielding – Cricket, Rounders
Athletics, Outdoor and Adventurous activities, Dance/Aerobics, Trampolining and Fundamentals.
Key Stage 4 PE
Students are taught in mixed sex groups for the majority of activities. Students get the opportunity to select what activities they participate in throughout Year 10 and Year 11.
Activities include; - Games
Invasion games – Football, Rugby, La Crosse
Net/Wall Games – Table Tennis, Tennis
Striking and fielding – Cricket, Rounders
Athletics, Outdoor and Adventurous activities, Self-defence, Dance/Aerobics, Trampolining and Junior Sports Leader Award
(JSLA)
Year 11 – The students visit the local leisure centre, Greenbank or Meadowside. Where they will select from the following activities

Dance

Squash
-
Badminton
-
Swimming
GCSE/BTEC PE
Those students who would like a career involving Leisure or Health and Fitness activities are advised to choose GCSE or BTEC PE as one of their options.

Sports Day
Sports Day is a traditional affair for students in Yr 7-10. Students within their forms elect students to compete in the various events. Points are awarded according to their finishing position. All points are added together to generate an overall winning form.
Extra Curricular
Activities
Besides covering the demands of the KS3 curriculum and the examination criteria at KS4, we aim to offer extra-curricular activities for young people to enjoy.
