Department Overview
As a Specialist Performing Arts College we aim to teach and learn through the excitement and fun of performing, looking for excellence through enjoyment.
The department subjects – Dance, Drama and Music – teach a common core of skills, each bringing their own ‘flavour’ to devising, performing and evaluating. These common strands help to build understanding, control, concentration and confidence, so helping all students achieve their potential.
Dance
Dance features the key areas of
performance, choreography and appreciation through various topics.
Drama
Drama aims to use the enjoyment of improvisation and the buzz of performance to help students examine the world in which we live, exploring our attitudes and our place within society.
Music
Our aim in Music is to provide a dynamic, exciting environment that students are enthusiastic about being a part of. We enjoy the same relaxed atmosphere as the rest of the department, where learning is fun and yet of a high standard.
GCSE Performing
Arts
Along with the discrete subjects of Dance, Drama and Music, Performing Arts is also offered at GCSE level for those 'all-round' performers. There is also the possibility to specialise in the technical side of Performing Arts rather than be assessed in an on stage role.
