Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are key skills that allow young people to become independent learners. These skills are vital not only in school but in all walks of life.

 

Team Worker


1. Work with others to achieve targets.

2. Discuss issues and make decisions as part of a team.

3. Adapt behaviour to circumstances.

4. Be fair and understand how others may feel.

5. Be responsible and show I can be a leader.

6. Be able to give constructive feedback.

Effective Participator

1. Discuss things that concern me and find a solution when needed.

2. Be persuasive.

3. Break down tasks into small practical steps.

4. Find better ways of doing something.

5. Try to influence others, to find a solution that works for everyone.

6. Be able to explain someone else’s point of view and support them.

Reflective Learner

1. Notice when I or others do things well.

2. Set goals with steps to help me achieve.

3. Check how things are going and act on anything I need to do to be successful.

4. Request feedback and respond positively.

5. Apply what I have done and learned to future situations.

Creative Thinker

1. Come up with ideas and possibilities.

2. Ask questions and think more widely.

3. Think of new ways to link my ideas and experiences with those of other people.

4. Question what I and others think about how to approach an activity.

5. Changing my ideas if I need to because of things around me changing.

Independent Enquirer

1. Work out what questions to ask to answer a problem.

2. Plan and carry out research, understanding what my decisions might lead to.

3. Look at situations, issues and problems in lots of different ways.

4. Assess and prioritise information.

5. Understand how different people’s views or unplanned events might alter my plans.

6. Back up my conclusions with reasoned arguments and evidence.

Self Manager

1. Find challenges and be able to be flexible when things change.

2. Work towards goals, persevere independently.

3. Organise my time, prioritise jobs and prepare for things going wrong.

4. Balance my work with my social/personal life.

5. Respond well to change and ask for help when I need it.
