Overview

PSHE underpins the whole school in giving young people the opportunity to develop the skills to be able to make informed decisions about their own life choices.

A wide variety of issues are explored including Sex & Relationships, Drugs Education, Personal Safety, Teenage Health Issues, Self Esteem & Body Image and Personal Finance.

A variety of approaches are used and students enjoy group work, discussion work, making leaflets and booklets, role play activities and taking part in real life challenges.

A particularly successful piece of work is done in conjunction with South Derbyshire CVS and involves students in working with The Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator to raise awareness of this problem.

Visitors and guest speakers are used to add variety and depth to the course and students are encouraged to develop their own knowledge of local services and how to make use of them.

As part of PSHE students are encouraged to keep a Progress File of their achievements as they go through the school.
